In April we were very lucky to welcome TV presenter and writer Kate Humble to the Forest of Marston Vale.

Possibly best known for presenting Animal Park and SpringWatch, Kate came to film a video about the history of the Forest of Marston Vale, what we’ve achieved over the last 30+ years and the fabulous habitats we’ve created.

The day began with tree planting in the Millennium Country Park, where we talked about the industrial past of the Marston Vale and the difference that planting trees and the creation of the Forest has made to the area. Then Kate went wildlife watching in the Wetlands Nature Reserve with Senior Ranger, Nicola Ceconi. On cue the marsh harriers did a fly-by and Kate was thrilled to hear two male bitterns booming in competition for mates. Then it was off to Rectory Wood, in Cranfield, to see one of our more mature woodlands and talk about how it benefits the local community.

We talked all day long and the video that’s been produced is just a snippet of Kate’s visit. It was such a joy to spend the day with Kate, with her vast knowledge and passion for the environment. The only thing we didn’t agree on was fruit crumble – with or without custard?

Kate’s visit was made possible by our Corporate Friends of the Forest, Carbon Neutral Britain, who commissioned her visit and the production of the video through Elastic Pie Productions. We can’t thank you enough for making this video possible!
